« Governing the Global Risks » Donostia-San Sebastian (6th- 7th October 2010)
Colloques, Conférences, Tout'infos.trackback
The debate on global risks has forced its way into the political agendas. Issues such as climate change, emerging security threats, health and nutritional risks, and financial crises all pose immediate challenges to our conceptualization of those future uncertainties. How can we ascertain the potential risk? What is the nature of those latent possibilities? We must fully understand the nature of such risks in order to properly deal with the precariousness they entail. Any situation of future uncertainty comes along with its share of tough dilemmas, such as: what sort of precaution is reasonable, how can we anticipate catastrophic causal chains, what type of concerted action is appropriate for addressing our issues globally, how should we handle our inevitable ignorance about what lies ahead, and so on. Meanwhile, we are seeing the emergence of a new discourse on public interest that extends beyond the traditional frameworks of political action and demands new forms of governance. Thus, this will be the focus of the debate that will be held next 6th and 7th of October in San Sebastian under the title: « Governing the Global Risks ».
House of Peace and Human Rights, Palacio de Aiete, Spain.
